Hosting and promoting your own information seminar is a tried and tested local area marketing technique that works well for brokers. Our Spring Selling Campaign resources page tells you how to do it in three simple steps and also gives you handy marketing materials to promote your event. You can also get more guidance from the experts by watching our October Tactical Workshop which focused on using seminars to generate leads – watch the replay here.
What are your successful peers doing in this space?
Louise Lucas from The Property Education Company in Melbourne employs a seminar program as part of her regular marketing mix. The business not only organises their own seminars independently but also leverages by associating with other local business events and business organisations. One great example was a seminar Louise presented when participating in the Small Business Festival Victoria in August.
The strategy has helped Louise grow her personal brand and position The Property Education Company as experts in the local community, gaining a lot of recognition and respect for the business and the services Louise’s team provides.
Face-to-face events bring back the personal touch
Dianne Croonen is a successful iConnect Financial broker, based out of Beenleigh in Queensland. In a recent interview article following our July Empower event, Dianne gave us some great insights into why seminars work for her.
“I think face to face events are a great marketing idea – you can talk with many people at once. I think they offer a more personal approach and prospective clients get to see me, and know that I’m a real person, just like them.
“Too many processes these days are automated – face to face events bring back the personal touch. You can see it, you can ask questions and get answers. I believe clients will deal with people that they feel they can trust – they need to know we understand that what they want is important and unique to them.”
Dianne suggests brokers partner up with likeminded businesses, so you can all benefit from the information events and reach out to more customers.
“Get together a group of relevant industry professionals – for example, a Financial Planner, Solicitor, Real Estate Agent – and combine your resources/databases to make a fantastic event. For me, I have a created a team of female local professionals, and we are all doing a First Home Owner Information Seminar together.”
Why not make it fun?
An event doesn’t necessarily have to be all business. Pure Finance in NSW recently teamed up with financial planners, Fox & Hare Financial to host a “Wine and Wisdom” event which attracted customers from both businesses and had great cut-through on social media. (Pure Finance is also great at using photography and video on social to promote their brand).
Are you nervous about public speaking?
Despite being experts in the world of credit and finance, many brokers are held back by the mere thought of speaking to a room full of people. But it isn’t as hard – or as scary – as it sounds. The audiences signing up to attend your events are genuinely interested in hearing what you have to say. They’re more interested in meeting you and gaining the benefit of your expertise than criticising your delivery.
This recent article gives you a few public speaking tips to bolster your confidence. Another great idea is to practice your delivery on family and friends and incorporate their feedback into your presentation. If you feel you need more one-on-one training, Toastmasters is a not-for-profit organisation that helps business professionals all over the country to improve their public speaking and leadership skills.
Don’t forget to take advantage of our resources!
